Getting an autograph at a basketball or football game is very fun and could be the best part of any game for a fan. There are many ways to get autographs of players but after you learn a few basic steps right now:

1. Know the player’s names: It is imperative to know the player’s names when trying to get their autographs. They are more likely to give you an autograph when they know that you know who they are, this way they know you will appreciate their signature.

2. Always have a pen: How can you get an autograph without a pen, trust me they don’t carry pens with them just in case somebody asks for an autograph.

3. Saying please and thank you: Common courtesy is always important. They like it when you treat them decently.

4. Programs are the best: Try to have a program or the roster sheet for them to sign, it is easier for you, especially if you plan on getting more than one autograph, plus it looks better to have an autograph on something related to the game, like a program.

In football there is more commotion and a lot more people to climb over and you are not on the same level as the players a lot of the time, so it will be a bit more difficult, so being prepared for a football game by following those tips up above.

In basketball autographs are easy to get because the players are always around the bench and near the sidlines, so getting them to sign is a lot easier.

Places to get autographs are important. The best way is obviously to have a front row seat and to get to the game early, but it is very difficult to get great seats. So capitalize on such an opportunity by talking to players as they walk by to get a towel or pick up a ball near the edge of the field/court. Try to make small talk while down there as teammates notice them talking to you and follow suit coming by to talk to them and you. Also if you can’t get down in front you can obviously walk close by the front row and just run down into a crowd once a player starts signing. But a great way is also to wait outside the player’s entrance/exit as they are leaving the park, they are less focused on the sport and refreshed after the game. They are more relaxed and they are more willing to sign at that point, plus they don’t have to get back into the locker room very soon and so they are able to talk more.

Just follow the above guidelines and you should be very succesful.
