Freshwater angelfish are one of the most beautiful varieties of freshwater aquarium fish. They are also very personable fish that are a pleasure to care for. Angelfish will show their eagerness when they see someone nearby, or at feeding time, by swimming back and forth to attract attention. These fish can even be hand-fed morsels of their favorite foods.

The website "Oodles of Angels", in the publication entitled "Angelfish Habitat", provides the following information on the history and origin of the freshwater angelfish. In 1930 angelfish were bred in captivity in the United States for the first time.

The amazing quality of this variety is their ability to become darker or lighter according to how they are feeling.

The website publication "Fins: The Fish Information Service", in the article entitled "Angelfish", which was published by Active Windows Productions, Inc., describes the Veiltail angelfish. It says this beautiful variety has very long fins and can be any color typical to angelfish. Although beautiful, these angelfish often injure or lose their fins because of their extreme length.

"Angelfish" provides the following information on the recommended diet for freshwater angelfish. It says although staple flakes are a good source of nutrition, a wide variety of foods is healthier. Some suggestions are black worms, mature brine shrimp, baby guppies, or earthworms that have been finely chopped. When these foods are unavailable, frozen brine shrimp and blood worms are alternate options.

According to "About Angelfish", the pH levels most desirable for angelfish are between 6.0 and 9.0. Test kits are available at most pet stores to check and adjust pH levels. The same article recommends regularly checking ammonia levels as well. Too much ammonia in the water can be lethal for all varieties of fish. Keeping these levels in check will help your fish to live longer, healthier lives.
